MI Media is a formulary developed by the US EPA for the simultaneous detection of coliforms and E. coli. It was originally launched by the EPA under Method 1604 in 2002. MI Media is currently approved for use in drinking water and can also be used to detect coliforms in other types of water—bottled, surface, ground, well, recreational (fresh or marine), as well as process water for ultrapure chemical processing.
Hach’s MI Media Broth simultaneously detects and identifies both total coliforms and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Incubation time is 24 hours for complete enumeration. There is no confirmation step.
MI Media causes coliforms to fluoresce under UV light. E. coli appear deep blue in color, rendering them easy to differentiate from other colonies.
Enumerate test results directly with MI Media. MI Media is much more accurate and precise than statistical-based tests such as Most Probable Number (MPN) and Multiple Tube Fermentation (MTF).1,2.
MI Media is an EPA-approved, 24-hour media for enumeration of total coliforms and E. coli. In addition, Hach Company not only offers the total solution, but also special discount packages on media, petri dishes, membranes, and filtration equipment.
MI Media was developed by the EPA and released as method 16042. It is currently approved for use in drinking water and can also be used to detect coliforms in other types of water—bottled, surface, ground, well, recreational (fresh or marine), as well as process water for ultrapure chemical processing.
