Using Field Data Collection Software in San Luis Obispo, CA

The team at San Luis Obispo, California’s Water Resource Recovery Facility realized that collecting field data on paper wasn’t meeting their needs. As a result, they switched to a digital approach, capturing their measurements on a mobile device via Claros Collect Field Data Collection Software. Claros Collect is just one of the solutions within the Claros Water Intelligence System from Hach. Hear San Luis Obispo’s story in their own words by watching their testimonial HERE.

claros summit 2019

A Great Event! – A Report Out on the 2019 Claros Summit

“Four fantastic days.” That’s how one attendee described the 2019 Claros Summit in Loveland, Colorado. For four days, water professionals from all across North America - as well as a few guests from across Europe and even Australia – came together to learn and share information with one another regarding optimizing their facilities using solutions within Claros, the Water Intelligence System from Hach. The event featured instruction from a variety of Hach experts, as well as excellent peer-to-peer presentations from many Claros users. These presentations and breakout sessions covered all three areas within the Claros environment – Data Management, Instrument Management, and Process Management. Guests presentations included:

  • • Utilizing WIMS to Optimize Chemical Dosages – City of Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • • Using Mobile Sensor Management in Applications – City of Lawrence, Kansas
  • • Claros Collect for Field Data Collection; Going Paperless – City of San Luis Obispo, California
  • • The Journey to Optimization with Claros Process Management – City of Barstow, California
  • • Tracking Lab Data in Claros – South Orange County Water Authority
  • • WIMS & Claros Down Under – Collab IT Systems, Australia
  • • Transforming Data into Information – Tucson Electric Power
  • • Working Smarter, Not Harder with Claros Data Management – Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania

These, as well as many other sessions, drove tremendous discussion and exploration among guests. In addition, Dustin Valiquette, Chief Plant Officer for the City of Manteca, California, served as the Summit’s keynote speaker. Manteca’s optimization journey includes solutions from all three primary pillars of the Claros Water System. As long time WIMS users, they have also utilized Mobile Sensor Management to validate instrument measurements and, in 2018, began collecting field data digitally, using tablets and the Claros Collect application. Then, in early 2019, they began optimizing their SRT using RTC within the Claros Process Management suite. To view Dustin sharing their story, as well as read their written case study, visit www.hach.com/claros-summit. His video is found below the download section of the page.

Other highlights of the Summit included a demonstration area where attendees could research other solutions for typical water management challenges, as well as a one-on-one solutions room where attendees could schedule time with a Hach expert to explore a specific issue or obstacle within their own facility. Guests also enjoyed the interactive challenge – novice and advanced versions – where attendees formed teams to solve a problem using Hach’s WIMS software, designed for data collection, visualization and analysis. A Summit favorite, winners of the advanced challenge received full-size wrestling-style championship belts to proudly display.

The event wouldn’t be complete without great social events, which included a welcome reception and a lake-side picnic event complete with food trucks and lawn games. Great opportunities for networking and enjoying social time with like-minded professionals. We’re already looking forward to next year!

To download all presentations from the event, as well as shared case studies and other relevant material, please visit www.hach.com/claros-summit.
